Buxa Tiger Reserve lies in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. Its northern boundary runs along the international border with Bhutan. The Sinchula hill range lies all along the northern side of BTR and the eastern boundary touches that of the Assam state. National Highway No.31 C roughly runs along its southern boundary. It is the eastern most extension of extreme bio-diverse North-East India and represents highly endemic Indo-Malayan region. The fragile "Terai Eco-System" constitutes a part of this reserve.
Jayanti Buxa Tiger Reserve organizes Safari for visitors twice everyday.
Buxa Tiger Reserve is famous for Tiger (Leopard), Civet, Elephant, Gaur (Indian bison), Indian boar and Red Jungle Fowl. The safari is carried out via Jeep. Tourists needs to book the safari in advance. There are limited number of jeeps available. The timing of safari are 6 AM in the monring and 3 PM in the evening. Permits are required per tourist and you can book a jeep (6 Persons maximum) for the safari. It's carried out in the core area permitted for Tourists by the forest authority. Total time for the safari is 2 Hours.
Jayanti is a small forest village within Buxa Tiger Reserve.
It is located along the Jayanti River, forming a natural border with the Bhutan hills. It is popular with hikers for its beautiful views of the surrounding landscape and wild fountains. The 13 KM trek from Buxaduar to Jayanti is especially popular, passing through the dense forest of the Buxa Tiger Reserve. You can take a walk to Jayanti River in the evening. It's just 5 KM from Adhikari Home Stay.
Buxa Fort is located at an altitude of 867 metres (2,844 ft) in the Buxa Tiger Reserve.
It is located 30 KM (19 MILE) from Alipurduar, the nearest town. It is located just 10 KM away from Adhikari Home Stay. This is short trek from Santalbari to Buxa Fort, 5 KM. It takes between 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete the trek. A guide is accompanied with the visitors to help them complete this trek. 3 KM of the trek is not motorable. The Bhutan King used the fort to protect the portion of famous Silk Route connecting Tibet with India, via Bhutan. Still later during unrest in Occupation of Tibet, hundreds of refugees arrived at the place and used the then abandoned fort as refuge.
Santalbari, a village inside the Buxa National Park, has a tranquil harmony with the forest surrounding it.
Located in close proximity to Buxa Tiger Reserve (BTR), Santalbari houses around fifty families, and a marvelous landscape of the golden-yellow mustard field. The tastefully built five cottages and one wooden bungalow are enough comfortable as a remote stay. The bathrooms are attached and have running water. The restaurant of the property has limited option Indian and local cuisine on its menu.
